NOTHING IS NORMAL!
In the Nothing is Normal - series of oil and acrylic paintings, I represent the daily life of 
the young Iranian generation - people who on the surface appear calm and at ease and 
who attempt to lead regular lives. However, even everyday activities which you and I in 
the West would take for granted can pose a serious risk to young Iranians. Socializing 
with friends, attending parties, surfing the internet, going for a walk, uploading photographs – they are in a state of constant battle, day and night.
Iranians are currently struggling to regain their rights. The murder of Mahsa Jina Amini 
is just one of the many, many unjustified murders which they are fighting against.
Women in particular are in a constant battle for the right to choose how they appear 
in public, how they behave, and what they do. These struggles are what make up the 
movement which demands freedom and enfranchisement for all, and which will eventually enable people to reclaim the political process.

Ahoo Maher, geboren 1990, wuchs in einer Künstlerfamilie in Teheran/Iran auf. Seit 2008 lebt sie in Österreich. Von 2009 bis 2011 studierte sie Musikpädagogik an der Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Wien. 2017 schloss sie ihr Studium der kontextuellen Malerei bei Ashley Scheirl an der Akademie der bildenden Künste in Wien ab. Bisher hat sie an vier Einzelausstellungen und zahlreichen internationalen Gruppenausstellungen teilgenommen. Seit 2013 tritt sie im Bereich Improvisation / Neue Musik / Performance mit verschiedenen Ensembles auf. Sie arbeitet als freie Künstlerin, Performerin und Kuratorin in Wien. Sie präsentiert ihre Arbeiten in Form von Malerei, Installation und Performances. Das Hauptthema ihrer Arbeit sind Lebensbedingungen aus der Perspektive von Frauen.
