These paintings were a sketch space for me in the past year while thinking about movement in my performances. I was looking at systems of water circulation in urban space, once second-hand pvc pipes appeared as a main material for the tensegrity sculptures that we activated as a group of dancers.
We danced scenes of weaving and imagined stitching with water threads. Thinking of the underground web that makes space moist. Of the nurturing and erroding capacities of water in contact with different surfaces. The cracks on cement, or pores of discarted sponges for heath isolation. It all came out as a map full of strings and overlaping structures that lead us while moving together.

Luiza Furtado was born in Florianopolis, Brazil (1999). She lived in Rio de Janeiro where she received her Design BA from PUC in 2021. Since three years she moved to Austria for her studies at the Academy of Fine Arts Vienna and currently studies at the Art and Context Class. Furtado's research on ecology weaves painting, soft sculpture and performance. She addresses topics of hybridity by reflecting on the following question: where does the human body beggin, and where does it end?. Her background as an industrial designer has influenced the way she addresses materiality in her process. The artist works with second hand material to create prosthetic images which often result in bulging spawns suggestive of metaphorical haptics and sensuality. Inspired by the studies of Biomimetics, a design field which emulates “models, systems, and elements of nature for the purpose of solving complex human problems”. Furtado pursues to work with diffent medias to draw //placentar narratives// a methaphoric image, for an involocrum which frames organisms throughout a process of growth and transformation while powered by channels for nurturing and exchange. Her goal is to tackle the entanglements of urban material arquives and fictional speculation to reflect on possible ecological alternatives for contemporaneity.
